Nadella will replace the current director of Microsoft, Steve Ballmer, who in August last year officially announced that he will leave the company within a year.
It will be only the third director in Microsoft's history, after Ballmer and company co-founder, Bill Gates. Gates will be moving into a different role advisory.
Microsoft said it was also considering many other external candidates, but the company has been the choice for vice president of the company for its business "Cloud and Enterprise". /
